Goals for 2008
I know I’m supposed to have these before it actually hit 2008 but better late than never! Besides, I’m only 3 days late.
- Get healthy. Drink more water instead of soda. Exercise. Eat more vegetables and fruits. Eat more fish (mmm, omega-3 fatty acids). Cut down on the sugar…but also stay away from the fake stuff. (Basically, if it needs sweetening, use sugar…but cut down.) Make sure to eat breakfast. Get my calcium in (Got milk?).
- Develop my photography skills. (hee, develop) Take more pictures (practice, practice, practice). Read my books. Take more pictures of my family (I want to make a book!)
- Cut down on debt. ‘Nough said.
- Get rid of clutter. The garage is reminding me of Sanford and Sons. I’m surprised I’m still able to park in there.
- Get re-serious about this doctor thing. Or else I’m wasting time and money.

Missing Out
It seems that everywhere on the internet, people are meeting other people, developing lasting friendships, making great friends. I am missing out. The last time I made a lasting connection online was with my husband. That was almost 11 years ago…before I realized that a certain someone can find me by the breadcrumbs I leave behind online. And, that scared the bejesus out of me. From that moment, I withdrew. Fear has a funny way of doing that to a person. I know, I know. This certain person could hire an investigator to search for me…but I’m hoping that most legitimate investigators will check and find that I have a restraining order filed against this person and not take the job. It sucks not being able to be my trueself online. Not being able to open up publicly…I envy all those people who’ve met and made close friendships.

Time Flies
Well, my 11 day break is over and tomorrow, I must return to work. Time really does fly when you’re having fun.

UPS

Being an impatient person, I thought there was nothing worse than having to wait for a heavily anticipated package. Yesterday, I found out I was wrong. There is something worse…getting the dreaded UPS notification for a failed attempt. What’s worse than that? We were home at the time and just didn’t hear the delivery guy at the door. Now, I have to wait to more days!

Just playing around with my new Casio. It’s such a fun and cute camera. It was kind of a shock when I opened the box and saw how tiny it was. After lugging around the D70 for a couple of years, it was strange to hold the Casio. And it’s pink! I told my husband that I was going to name it “Bunny.”
This picture is straight out of the camera with the anti-shake feature on.

‘Tis The Season…
…for digital cameras, it seems. I had put on my wish list that I wanted the Casio Exilim EX-Z1080 (in pink) because I wanted a small camera that I will carry with me everywhere. (I know, everyone is jumping on the DSLR bandwagon and here I was reverting back to a point-and-shoot!) Well, it’s just not practical for me to lug the D70 around constantly. I have my notebook for work, I have my books for class. I wasn’t about to add a camera bag to that list. Hello, pack mule anyone? So, I chose the Casio because of a co-worker’s recommendation and it’s so tiny. Well, the hubby got it for me.
So, my Winter break is shaping up to be a camera bootcamp…learn two new cameras in three weeks! Good thing I took time off from work and have 11 days free coming up.

Angst and Agonizing Done
I got thru the angst and the agonizing and found someplace that actually had the Nikon D300 in stock. The deed is done. Now, I’m off to our company holiday party where I’ll be sure to drink some of the buyer’s remorse away.

Big Mistake
I made a big mistake. I read the preview article and reviews on the Nikon D300. Now, I want it…badly! My husband says I should buy it as I don’t usually buy myself things anyway. I don’t have a shoe or purse habit. I don’t get manicures or pedicures. I definitely don’t go to the spa. I don’t shop just to shop. (My clothes have to be practically in tatters before I buy new ones.) The closest thing to a habit I would have would be Starbucks and Bath and Body Works. But, still, I’m having a difficult time convincing myself to order the darn thing. I know what’s going to happen though…I’m going to sit here and stew over it. And, after much angst and agonizing, and going back and forth, I’ll be purchasing it anyway. What to do? What to do?
Update: It looks like the decision has been made for me. The camera is backordered and out of stock everywhere.

Piling More On The Plate
I’ve decided I want to blog again. I really like the idea of having a written record of what went on the past year. I envy bloggers who can pull up past posts and say, “See, this is what happened to me on such and such a day.” Nowadays, I can barely remember what I had for breakfast much less everything that happened throughout the year.
I also would like to take more pictures. I’ve somehow lost my photomojo and I want it back. In that vain, I might look into one of those 365 photo things on Flickr. I am also thinking of doing a 52 weeks photo weight loss tracking thing. It would be neat to see the changes from week to week and the before and after shots. Another project I would love to do is a book of a year’s worth of family pictures. That would be cool!
Of course, this is in addition to classes during Winter and Spring quarters and volunteering during the summer and a full time job and a family. Can it be done?! Stay tuned.

In Search of Relaxation
I am currently on my winter break from classes. You would think that I would take this time to actually relax, something I’ve been dreaming of during the quarter. But nooooo! What do I do? I pile on the projects. The first knitting project. The stack of books to read. Reformatting the husband’s old PC so I can move to it (because my Alienware sucks ass and sounds like it’s about to keel over). Take pictures…and more pictures. Scan old financial documents and save to DVD. The list goes on and on. Add to that the whole Christmas shopping thing…. How long is my break? 4 weeks. Yeah, needless to say, I wised up and decided to actually use the time to chill. Whatever I get done…great! Whatever I can’t…call me Scarlett O’Hara because dang-it, there’s always tomorrow!
